When usedThis signal is used by the Referee as part of a foul announcement to denote that the foul that will be signalled next is a dead-ball foul. PenaltyThis simply signifies that the foul(s) being reported is/are treated as dead-ball and that the result of the play stands, however there will be a penalty assessment from the end of the play (known as the succeeding spot). If there is more than foul then they are usually administered separately and in order of occurrence. How executedThe hands should start at the waist with one being extended vertically over head in an unhurried manner. There is no other use for this signal in British American Football. |
