CALL FOR PROOFREADING VOLUNTEERS 2026
Production is well advanced for the 2026 editions of both the rulebook and Manual of Football Officiating. I'm once again looking for volunteers to help with the proofreading of either or both.
For the rulebook, most NCAA changes have been incorporated, the IFAF rule change process is in progress, and the BAFA Rules Committee is about to ponder our national variations. For the MOFO, the majority of suggestions that have come in over recent years have been processed.
I plan to have the MOFO ready for proofreading early in November and the IFAF rulebook ready in late November/early December, and I'm aiming to get both the IFAF rulebook and MOFO out before Christmas, with the BAFA rulebook finished in the New Year.
If you're willing to proofread and review some sections, please let me know. The more people who volunteer, the less each person needs to do. You don't have to be a rules/mechanics expert to do this. However, it is a good way to learn the rules and mechanics at a very detailed level, so even rookie officials would be able to do it. Full instructions are provided. If you volunteer, I will assume you are willing to help with both rules and mechanics - if that is not the case, let me know your preferences and I will try to take them into account.
To volunteer, please email me at rules@britishamericanfootball.org. Specify any issues with your availability around November/December that I need to be aware of.

Manchester Titans | Field markings were below full standards. There were a number of issues with the field markings. The Football markings were in black, and there were markings for other sports in Dark Blue and White. At the goal lines, in between the inbounds lines, there was a dark blue line parallel to and overlapping the goal line that was impossible to differentiate from the football markings, this made the endzone visually appear slightly larger between the inbounds lines. The Rugby Markings were sown in the field, and one of these markings came away during warm-ups which created a trip-hazard. This was identified and fixed before the scheduled kick-off time. There were no limit lines. There were no shower or washing facilities available for the officials. | Unknown |
PLAY OF THE WEEK: | |
New this week | Play: During A91' s punt the untouched ball is at rest on the B-3 when B22 blocks A80 into the ball, forcing it into the end zone where it touches the ground, the ball is then recovered by A83.
|
Last week | Play: Third and 15 at the A-2. Quarterback A11 drops back to pass. About to be tackled in the endzone, they throw the ball forward to an area where there are no eligible receivers. Tackle A72 catches the pass at the A-1 and is tackled at the A-3.

MECHANICS: | |
New this week | Game Situation: There is 30 seconds left in the game and the clock is running, both Teams have one timeout remaining. Team A commits a False Start. As this is a potential 10 second run-off; what actions should the Wing officials on a 4 person crew take?
|
Last week | Game Situation: Running Back A46, runs towards the right edge, where his is hit, as he is going to ground he looses control of the ball, and B91 recovers the ball while their knee is touching the ground. When in doubt is the ball carrier down or is it a fumble? Answer: When in doubt, it is a fumble rather than the running play has ended (M6.2.26) |
