RULES CLARIFICATIONS

As a result of questions posed to me in the last week or so, I can clarify the interpretation of two rules, as follows:

  1. Rule 1-4-5-c (jersey numbers). When we talk about contrasting colours, we mean the colour of the numerals compared with the colour of the part of the jersey that forms their background. We realise that some teams have multi-coloured jerseys where other parts of the jersey are the same colour as the numerals - that's OK.
  2. Rule 13-1-1-c. Anyone who is a paramedic registered with the HCPC meets the criteria for an immediate care practitioner. We have learned that FPHC courses are mainly aimed at other healthcare practitioners to give them the same sort of training that paramedics get as standard.

Any questions, please let me know.

Cambridgeshire Cats

Team areas were marked to the 25-yard lines.

Brian Yates #29

21st April 2024 v Bristol Aztecs

Chorley Buccaneers (U16)

Painted sideline on one side of each of the two fields. The other lines were marked with cones. The goal lines were marked with pylons only.

Steve Hall #512

Unknown

Clyde Valley Blackhawks

Hash marks were marked to incorrect width, so cones were placed outside of the end lines to mark the correct width. Coaching/Team areas marked to 25-yard lines.

Kenneth Glover #71

2nd June 2024 v Inverclyde Blackhawks

East Kent Mavericks

The field has been remarked. Endzones are approximately five yards deep and Hash marks are NFL-width. All short yard-line extensions have been marked in yards where they had previously been marked as IFAF yards. The field was reduced to 80 yards with End Zones starting at the five-yard line before play began. Old markings are still visible, although faint, and were used when spotting the ball. East Kent have home games for the next 2 weeks. The game was suspended with 12:37 remaining in the third quarter due to a player injury. The game was delayed for 1h27. Play continued once the ambulance had arrived and taken the player to hospital.

Graham Smith #149

21st June 2024 v London Blitz B

Edinburgh Wolves

Well-marked field, but team/coaching areas were marked to the 25-yard lines.

Ian Sneddon #427

5th May 2024 v Tamworth Phoenix

Essex Tridents

Changing room well appointed but not lockable. Team have moved to a different field this year which whilst is now 100 yards long it does have several issues. Team area and coaching lines are not 12/6 feet back respectively, no limit lines, surface is quite uneven and has some bare patches of earth, field numbers are smaller than required and not 9 yards for the top of the numbers.

Phil Clarke #262

21st April 2024 v Colchester Gladiators

Humber Warhawks

90-yard field. No three-yard marks, nine-yard marks, or numbers. No limit lines. Team areas were marked out between the 24-yard lines. Several lines were wonky and one missing hash mark was added by the referee using aerosol paint. The field surface undulated in several areas, and whilst not a trip hazard, meant you had to be careful with your footing.

David Hewitt #607

28th April 2024 v Yorkshire Rams

Leigh Miners

Team areas were absent. Otherwise, a well-marked 90-yard field.

Paul Todd #289

12th May 2024 v Lancashire Wolverines

Manchester Titans

80-yard field as Manchester have been granted an extension to rule 1-2-1 for 2024. There were other sports markings present, some of which were also in white but did not create an issue.

Lee Taylor #183

19th May 2024 v East Kilbride Pirates

Manchester Titans (U19)

80-yard field. There were other sports markings present, some of which were also in white but did not create an issue.

Lee Taylor #183

19th May 2024 v Chorley Buccaneers

Merseyside Nighthawks

Well-marked 90-yard field. Team areas were marked with cones

Steve Hall #512

21st April2024 v Edinburgh Wolves

Norwich Devils

The game was suspended twice, for about five minutes each, to deal with a potential neck injury. Changing rooms are a significant distance from the field requiring a drive, however, parking is then right next to the field.

Lee Wood #517

21st April2024 v London Olympians

Nottingham Caesars

Coaching' boxes were too close to the sideline. Other markings were in a similar colour (red) to the gridiron markings.

Joel Pearson #405

4th May 2024 v Leicester Panthers

Nottingham Caesars (U19)

Coaching' boxes were too close to the sideline. Other markings were in a similar colour (red) to the gridiron markings. One stoppage for 12 minutes due to neck injury.

Joel Pearson #405

14th July 2024 v Birmingham Lions

Rushmoor Knights

New venue. The changing room is just about big enough for a crew and was lockable. A couple of holes were discovered in the field surface on initial inspection. These were filled prior to the game. No limit lines. Marks were placed at the top and bottom of where the numbers should be. Both sets of hash marks in the middle of the field were uneven in terms of lining up with the inbounds lines. The goal posts at both ends were constructed from a soccer goal, so the crossbar was 8ft high and the uprights were 24ft apart. One member of the chain crew changed at half time.

Peter Parsons #321

Rushmoor Knights (U19)

Peter Parsons #321

5th May 2024 v Somerset Wyverns

Solent Thrashers

100-yard field marked mostly in yellow, except the ten-yard lines at both ends which were in a much fainter blue line (used by another sport). This has been acceptable in previous seasons, however, because it's so faint the gameday manager at Solent was informed it needs correcting before the next game. Goals overhang endzones by one yard. Team areas were marked to the 25-yard lines.

Oliver Maskell #221

28th April 2024 v London Blitz

Somerset Wyverns

The officials’ changing room is sized for 3 people (maximum) and is not lockable. This game was the second part of a double-header and kickoff was delayed by around 30 minutes due to an injury in the previous game. Two stoppages occurred during the game to repair the chain set. One change was made to the chain crew at half-time.

Amir Brooks #593
