Perfectly marked 100-yard field. Only issue was the lack of a team area line and the team areas being too small.

Game was an organised scrimmage on the main Filton field between Offence and Defence. HC took the lead in what game situations he wanted to test and the game clock was operated as normal expect that it ran between changeovers.

PLAY OF THE WEEK:

New this week

Play: It is 4th and Goal at the B-5 yard line.

Quarterback A12 receives the snap and runs to the B-2 where is hit and looses possession of the ball. A83 picks up the ball at the B-3 and runs into the endzone where he celebrates and makes a rude gesture to an opponent.

Ruling?

Last week

Play: Team A, 4th and 10 at the B-25, the game clock is running. Team A line up to attempt a field goal, holder A13 places a piece of tape on the ground near where he is kneeling to mark the spot where he will place the ball after it is snapped. The Field Goal is Good.

Ruling: Team A, 4th and 15 at the B-30. The score is no good. The clock will start on the snap. This is an illegal kick. No device or material may be used to mark the spot of a scrimmage place kick (6-3-10-d). If the Referee of Centre Judge spots this before the snap, they should remove the tape of advise the holder to do so (without interrupting the play clock), if the tape is removed, there is no foul as as this is a live-ball foul at the snap.

MECHANICS:

New this week

Game Situation: 4th and 12 at the A40.  Punter A4 kicks the ball downfield.  The ball hits the ground and is rolling around as returner B22 makes a 'get away' signal by waving both arms at waist level.  The ball is rolling at the B12 when B22 races to the ball and picks it up.  He runs to the A45 before he is tackled.  Ruling?

Answer next issue…

Last week

Game Situation: When should the uncatchable pass signal (S17) be used?

Answer: It should only be used when contact that would have been pass interference occurs on a pass that is uncatchable (M11.4.12, M12.4.13, M13.4.11, M14.4.13, M15.4.12).

It should not be used when the pass was uncatchable but any contact was not pass interference.
