DISCIPLINARY UPDATE
Last week's Newsflash reported that Connor Hewitt of the Manchester Titans was disqualified from their game on 3rd September for a Flagrant Personal Foul. However the disqualification has been cancelled after an appeal Committee concluded that the act was not a Flagrant Personal Foul.

PLAY OF THE WEEK: | |
New this week | Play: 3rd and 2 at the B-32. The game clock is running and there are 6 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter. Team B has 12 players in the formation, and no Team B player is attempting to leave the field. The ball is ready for play, both teams are in formation and the snap is imminent. Quarterback A10, late in the play clock, is struggling to read the defence and calls a timeout.
|
Last week | Play: Team A 4th and 30 and the A-20 yard line. Team A line up in a scrimmage kick formation and punt the ball. The balls travels 15 yards beyond the line of scrimmage where B38 is positioned to catch the kick. B38 muffs the ball and gunner A85 dives on the loose ball and recovers it at the A-35 yard line. Which team will snap the ball next, what is the next down & distance. What is the status of the play clock and game clock?
As the kick has crossed the neutral zone the continuity of the series of downs is broken (5-1-4-b), therefore whichever team ends the down in legal possession will be awarded a new series (5-1-1-e-2). B38’s muff makes Team A eligible to recover the ball (6-3-3) The game clock will start on the snap as a legal kick down has occurred (3-3-2-d-8). None of the reasons for a 25 second play clock listed in 3-2-4-c apply so the play clock should be set to 40 seconds and start when the ball is declared dead. |
MECHANICS: | |
New this week | Game Situation: On a 5 man crew, what fouls should be recorded (in writing) by which officials? What details of the fouls should be recorded?
|
Last week | Game Situation: Team A break the huddle with 20 seconds remaining on the play clock. The Umpire notices that Tight End is not wearing knee pads, how should the crew handle this? Answer: The player is notified that he must leave the game. The play clock (and game clock if running) should not be stopped. If possible, the referee should use his microphone to make a brief announcement identifying the player and his team and the reason why he must leave the field. This announcement should be made from the referee’s position to officiate the next play, and must not delay the start of the next play. If Team A cannot substitute a player quickly enough, then it will suffer a Delay of Game penalty. (AR1-4-8:IV & M3.4.11.b) |
