AGM:

Please remember that our AGM will take place at 5pm on Saturday 2nd April, during the Convention. You should have received a copy of the Agenda and Directors’ Reports. It is well worth reading these before attending, and you have the opportunity to submit e mail questions to BAFRA General Secretary (secretary@bafra.info) by 26th March.

Speakers:

Jeff Dahle is our principal guest speaker. He returns to our Convention, following his previous visit in 2018. He is a celebrated PAC-12 official and was very well received last time. Our second guest speaker is Frank Kristensen, who is one of Europe’s top officials. He has visited previously, back in 2011, and was very well received. Biographies for both speakers have been sent out separately.

Location:

The Convention will be held at Yarnfield Park Training & Conference Centre, Yarnfield Lane, Yarnfield, Staffordshire, ST15 0NL.  Yarnfield Park is a leading Training and Conference centre in the heart of the UK. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF BAFRA LTD

The Annual General Meeting of BAFRA Limited will be held during the Convention at 5pm on Saturday 2nd April 2022. It is open to all members. A full agenda with the Company Accounts and Directors’ Reports have been circulated to all members. If you have not received this please let me know.

At the AGM there will be the opportunity to question each director. If you wish to ask a question, it is helpful if it can be submitted to me by 26th March in particular if that answer requires some research. This also means members unable to attend may have their questions asked and answered. Of course, members have the right to ask non pre-notified questions at the AGM.

DISCIPLINARY UPDATE

During the game between the Newcastle Raiders and the NTU Renegades, a Newcastle player was disqualified for Targeting. However the disqualification has been cancelled after the calling official withdrew their report. The procedure for doing this is in BAFA Regulation 5.2.4 and is intended for use in rare cases when you realise you got it wrong. If that is ever the case, simply email me with the details, a copy of the video (or where to find it) and details of what the video shows and how that differs from your original report.

Team areas were not marked out properly. No cones available. Used existing rugby lines to keep coaches and players in respective areas. Upon inspecting chain length it was determined that distance between solid lines were not the same and in some instances were a couple of inches shorter or longer than chains. Game was stopped for a head injury for approximately 20 minutes at the start of the fourth quarter.

Home team sideline is close to the perimeter fence, which does not quite allow correct depth of team areas and coaches box. Although, the team did keep well back from the sideline. Coaches boxes marked to pre-COVID dimensions.

END ZONE

PLAY OF THE WEEK:

New this week

Play: Team A kickoff from the A-35. The kicker drives the ball into the ground and it bounces twice and goes high into the air. At the A-48, kick receiver B89 goes up with both hands and bats the ball forward to keep the kicking team from recovering the kick. The ball goes out of bounds at the  A-43.

Ruling?

Last week

Play: 4th & 3 at the B-43 yard line. There are 33 seconds remaining in the game, Team B have one timeout remaining. The game is being played with a Video Judge. Team A attempts a forward pass which is ruled complete at the B-39 yard line, with the ball carrier being tackled inbounds. The Team B Head Coach takes a timeout and requests that the play be reviewed as he believes the pass was incomplete.

After review the Video Judge determines that the pass was not caught and should have been ruled incomplete, however he observes that Team B had 12 players on the field during the down. Ruling?

Ruling: 1st & 10 at the B-38 yard line. The game clock will start on the snap. The Team B Head Coach retains timeout and his ability to request a review.

While undertaking a review of a particular aspect of a play, it is perfectly acceptable for other aspects to come under consideration. A review can consider any aspect of the play for which the game was stopped (M24.5.10). As the on-field ruling has been changed, Team B is not charged with a timeout and Team B’s Head Coach retains his privilege to request a review. (12-2-1-b-1)
