BAFRA ELITE PROGRAMME (BEP)

Now that the Annual Examination period has concluded, the process of selecting the members of the BEP can commence. Should you wish to be considered, then you must apply in writing to me at operations@bafra.info.

The closing date for applications is 5pm Saturday 20th June 2020.

Applications will only be considered from Qualified BAFRA members who meet specific criteria. Full details of the criteria can be found in the Elite Programme Policy in Section 6 of the Members' Handbook.

Also, as part of the criteria includes your rating on the Selection Spreadsheet, which must be 80% or above, I would also recommend you read the Scheduling and Selection Policy which can be found in Section 5 of the Members Handbook. If you wish to know your current rating on the Selection Spreadsheet before making your decision on whether or not to apply, please send an email to operations@bafra.info as soon as possible to request your current score.  Before I can respond with your score the results of the exam need to be collated.

If it is your intention to apply then I would recommend that you read the documents in full. If you are considering applying and would like an informal discussion please contact me.

APPOINTMENT OF DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF TRAINING

After the recent Board meeting, a new Deputy Director of Training, Amir Brooks, has been appointed to this role. Amir has plenty of experience both on and off the field for BAFRA and can be contacted at training@bafra.info. I hope the membership will join me in welcoming Amir to this position.

RETIRING OF NUMBERS #261 AND #381

After the recent Board meeting it has been agreed that the following two numbers of these members will be retired in their honour:

Robert Banks #261 – Robert joined BAFRA around 1985/86 having been a (Association) Football league referee. He became BAFRA Director of Finance in the late 80s and implemented correct practices and procedures to put BAFRA on a sound financial footing. Robert was concurrently the Finance Officer for BAFRA North West whilst BAFRA was managed on a regional basis. After stepping down from the finance role a few years later he served as BAFRA President for a short period when the vacancy occurred, and no long-term placement was readily available. Robert retired from active officiating in the mid 1990’s but continued to assess crews for a number of years after that.

Tvzi Lindeman #381 – Tvzi joined BAFRA in around 1986/87. For the many years Tvzi was a member he was the only BAFRA member to be found in the county of Cumbria. Despite this geographic isolation this did not prevent him from enthusiastically participating in officiating or in the administration of BAFRA. Tzvi served for a period as BAFRA’s Director of Finance before more recently becoming Director of Training, only relinquishing the position in late 2019 due to a serious deterioration in his health. Tzvi continued to assess crews throughout his time in BAFRA even though his appearances on-field became limited in later years.

I pay tribute to both members and will be informing their next of kin of the retiring of their numbers and will pass on our deepest sympathies for their loss.

CORRESPONDENCE FROM PANCREATIC CANCER UK

BAFRA has received a letter from Pancreatic Cancer UK to thank its members for the donation made of £1200 from being BAFRA’s choice of charity in 2019. This was in memory of Norman Cox #139, a longstanding official who sadly died of this form of cancer in January 2019.
