RULEBOOKS & EXAM UPDATES

Due to issues surrounding the Coronavirus outbreak, it has not yet been possible to deliver the Rulebooks and Mechanics Manuals in paper format.

While the board recognises that this is not ideal, it remains essential that all qualified members sit the exam this year and work through the challenges this poses. As a result of this, the following has been agreed:

• The exam period has been extended by 2 weeks (communicated previously) – with a close date of 23rd May 2020
• No members will be downgraded from current status for 2020/21 season on the basis of their exam score this year however not submitting an exam response will result in the normal process where members will lose fully qualified status

As related to the exam itself, I would like to outline some ways that we can mitigate this issue as it remains uncertain when these can be posted to all members:

• The online versions also include change documents outlining all of the rules (and mechanics) that have changed from the previous versions. This means that using the previous versions coupled with these rule change documents should allow members to get most of the way there with a paper version. The vast majority of questions in the exam are not related to new rules.

• For changes to MOFO please see Chapter 2 (page 12) of the latest version of the MOFO.

• To further assist with identification and understanding of the new rules & mechanics, a comprehensive series of online presentations was produced very helpfully by Jim Briggs and is available via links sent out by Davie Parsons in March.
• Finally, an unofficial but very helpful support when using the online version has been provided by Amir Brooks and allows each chapter to be accessed via bookmarks and is a helpful alternative to scrolling through many pages online.

These are unprecedented times which require a certain amount of understanding and forbearance. The predominant sentiment to date from members has been incredibly supportive and understanding, for that I would like to thank you all.

NEW DIRECTORS

There are two new directors joining the Board of BAFRA Limited from 1st May 2020.  The new Director of Training will be James Ford-Bannister, who was elected at the virtual AGM, replacing Pete Thom who is standing down after having kindly stepped up to the role on a temporary basis when Tzvi Lindeman’s health deteriorated last autumn.  The new General Secretary will be Richard Moger, who was elected unopposed at the virtual AGM, replacing myself.  I am standing down after just over 12½ years in the role (all of which I thoroughly enjoyed) but  I will be staying on as Richard’s assistant for a while, as he eases into his new responsibilities.

I am sure the whole membership will wish James and Richard well and support them as they take up the reins.

BAFRA CHARITY 2020

You, the membership, voted for the Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Research Foundation to be the BAFRA Charity for 2020.  Donations will be in memory of Tzvi Lindeman; it is the charity nominated by his family.  Details about the timing of the charity weekend will be announced once it is confirmed when football will be restarting.
