BAFRA FANTASY FOOTBALL

BAFRA members have run their own NFL Fantasy League for a few years now, via NFL.com. Due to members moving-on we now have 4 spaces to fill on the existing league, and I'd like to invite any interested member, or associate member, to join us by contacting myself, Simon Ryan at simonryan80@hotmail.com where I can issue an invitation. The league is being drafted on Tuesday 3rd September, so interest needs to be dealt with on a first-come, first-served basis. If there is a large response I will set-up a 2nd league for our new members.

END ZONE

PLAY OF THE WEEK:

New this week

Play: Team A kickoff from the A-35. The kicker drives the ball into the ground and it bounces twice and goes high into the air. At the A-48, kick receiver B89 goes up with both hands and bats the ball forward to keep the kicking team from recovering the kick. The ball goes out of bounds at the  A-43.

Ruling?

Last week

Play: Team A’s ball, 2nd and 10 at the B-33. A88 is airborne and secures firm control of A12’s legal forward pass at the B-3. A88’s right foot lands inbounds and he maintains firm control of the ball as he falls to the ground out of bounds at the B-3. B28, who is standing out of bounds at the B-4, has a hand touching the ball while A88 is airborne with firm control and before he has completed the catch by landing inbounds.

Ruling:

Team A. 1st and Goal at the B-3. A88 completes the process of the catch at the B-3. By rule, a ball that is not in player control, other than a kick that scores a field goal, is out of bounds when it touches the ground, a player, a game official or anything else that is out of bounds, or that is on our outside a boundary line (4-2-3-a). Even though A88 has yet to complete the process of the catch, he has the ball in firm control and maintains that control all the way through the process of the catch, and even though it was touched by B28, this is still a completed pass (AR-4-2-3-I).

MECHANICS:

New this week

Game Situation:

Should the Umpire should give a tipped ball signal (S11) when a ball kicked from a punt is partially blocked at the line of scrimmage?

Answer next issue…

Last week

Game Situation:

Near the end of the first half, Team A have the ball it is 1st & Goal at the B-9, there are 18 seconds remaining in the period, Team A are out of timeouts. Team A attempt a pass play and A80 catches the ball at the B-3. The covering official rules that A80 is tackled at the B-½ yard line. The game clock reads 12 seconds remaining in the period when the play ends, Team A are unable to snap the ball before the period expires. The Referee declares the half over.

After reviewing a replay, the Video Judge believes that A-80 may have  scored a Touchdown.

Answer:

A – 2nd& 10 @ B-33.

A review should not be initiated when it would give one team an advantage with respect to time (M24.3.5).This includes situations where stopping the clock would give Team A another play in circumstances where otherwise a period would end.

It is however possible to initiate a review after the period has ended and if a call is changed, the game clock would be restored to the point it would have been if the call had been made correctly.

In this scenario, if the Video Judge initiates a review after the period is over and after review it was decided that A80 had broken the plane of the Goal with the ball. Team A would be awarded a Touchdown and the next snap would be on the Try Down.

Team A would then kick-off with 4 seconds remaining in the half.
