BAFRA ANNUAL CONVENTION – SAT 28TH & SUN 29TH MARCH

The Convention is now just a week away. All the preparation work is done (almost) and all we need to do now is turn up and make the most of the weekend. 104 members have registered to attend.

Welcome Desk

The Welcome Desk will be open between 9:00am - 9:25am on the Saturday morning and will be located in the main reception area. A few things will happen when you arrive at the Welcome Desk. Firstly you will need to sign-in and then pick up your Convention Pack. This will contain the following items:

You will then be shown to the Main Convention Hall where Tea and Coffee will be available. We have quite a lot to get through during the day so I would ask that everyone makes the effort to be there as early as possible. We will start at 9:30am prompt and the Welcome Desks will close at 9:25am.

Prize Draw

We will be running a Prize Draw again this year and have prizes worth over £150.00 to give away. So remember to pick up some Raffle tickets at the Welcome Desk. They are only £1.00 each and the money collected will be reinvested in next year’s prizes.

Housekeeping Notes

Rooms will be available from 2:00pm on your day of arrival. We will probably have a room available where bags can be stored until you check-in. I will arrive at the Conference Centre around 11:00am on the Friday. If you have any problems please let me know. Directions can be found at: www.yarnfieldpark.com.

Payment

If you have not paid for your accommodation can I ask that you please do so as soon as possible. Payment for Convention rooms were due by 2nd March, and cheques should be made payable to BAFRA Ltd and sent to Charles Young at 8 Shaw Square, Earby, Barnoldswick, Lancashire, BB18 6SF. Leeds Beckett Ladies

The 2 fields were marked out extremely well, with all appropriate lines in place with 8 pylons and cones denoting the 5yd and 12yd lines. A Down Box and assistants were available for both fields, all of which made officiating these games a pleasure. Well done to Leeds for organising a great day and to all teams who fought hard with great sportsmanship.

Staffordshire Stallions

Only one set of goalposts was provided. The field is narrower than 160 feet. No team area markings were present. There were no pylons level with the hashmarks. Otherwise, the field is well marked.

END ZONE

PLAY OF THE WEEK:

New this week

Play: During a successful kick try from the three-yard line, B76 is offside. After the ball is dead, B25 unnecessarily shoves A54 in the back.
Ruling?

Last week

Play: 3rd and 10 on the B40. QB A10 completes a legal forward pass to receiver A88 at the B25. A88 runs to the B4 where he fumbles the ball, which rolls into and out through the endzone. The QB was roughed on the play. Ruling?

Ruling: A's ball, 1st and 10 on the B2. The penalty for roughing the passer is added to the end of the last run when it ends beyond the neutral zone and there is no change of team possession during the down. The turnover resulting from the touchback happened after the end of the down, so the penalty is enforced from the end of A88's run.

MECHANICS:

New this week

Game Situation: During the coin toss, the Referee, Umpire (and deep wing officials on a 7 man crew) are in the centre of the field with the players. Where should the wing officials and the Back Judge be positioned during this time?
Answer next issue...

Last week

Play: 1st and 10 at A's 4 yard line. On a 7 man crew, how should the two wing officials work together to ensure that team A's goal line is covered?
Answer: M-13-5. The Linejudge has primary responsibility for Team A's goal line if the ball is snapped from on or inside Team A's 7 yard line, the Linesman has the same if the ball is snapped on or inside the 2 yard line. In this case the Linejudge should move to cover the goal line. This can be remembered from the fact that the Linesman must be ready to move 5 yards downfield if he reads pass (M-13-4-b-2). Since he has coverage responsibilities downfield he has a reduced area within which he must cover the goal line.
