DISCIPLINARY UPDATE
BAFA has now concluded a disciplinary case arising from allegations made to BUAFL by BNU Buccaneers. As a result of an investigation, a total of five charges were levied against three individuals and one team. Statements were received from many people and in some cases further information had to be obtained.
The case related to a BUAFL regular season game played between Solent Redhawks and BNU Buccaneers on 19th February 2012, which Solent won. BNU alleged that Solent had unfairly obtained a copy of their playbook in advance of the game and used it to their advantage to win.
Those charged and their details are as follows.
1. Dominic Olney, Coventry University Jets and Coventry Jets (and a former BNU Buccaneer), admitted sending without authorisation a copy of the BNU Buccaneers playbook to a member of Solent Redhawks. This unfairly influenced the result of the subsequent game between the teams. Mr Olney was found guilty, fined £100 and suspended from the sport for two years.
2. Leigh Morris, Solent Redhawks assistant coach, admitted receiving the playbook and not informing his head coach or BAFA of that fact, and was also charged with as a consequence having scouted BNU Buccaneers by unfair means. Mr Morris was found guilty, fined £100 and suspended from the sport for one year.
3. The Solent Redhawks organisation denied unfairly gaining an advantage over BNU Buccaneers in the game in question. They were found guilty by the Disciplinary Committee, even though the advantage they gained was slight, and will have one win deducted from (and one loss added to) their 2012-2013 season record.
4. Martin Hume, Solent Redhawks head coach, denied a charge of having failed to adequately supervise the scouting of BNU Buccaneers by his team. He was found not guilty.
The Disciplinary Committee took the view that any conduct that led to a team gaining an unfair scouting advantage needed to be dealt with severely, and the individuals involved will as a result serve lengthy bans from the sport. Solent's team punishment reflects that a win was gained last season that they did not fully deserve.
Those found guilty have 28 days in which to lodge an appeal.
BAFA calls on all coaches and team managers to ensure that their players and staff act with the utmost integrity with regard to information obtained from other teams. All coaches are bound by the BAFCA Code of Ethics which forms part of the BAFA Disciplinary Code, and should report any conduct that breaches it.

Despite BAFRA having been told of a 12.00 kick off, both teams believed it was at 12.30. We agreed to a 12.00 kick off time with both teams, but then home team were not ready. We switched to a 12.15 kick off but did not start until 12.25 due to having to brief the chain crew as they were only provided late. Crew had to ask for a chain crew on several occasions without any response and without any urgency from game management. Whole chain crew were reluctant to do the job and ambled around regularly delaying the game. One of the chain crew went at half time and had to be replaced to no improvement. The chains broke on several occasions.
Field was rock hard and where grass was worn the level changed dramatically. Goals were too wide and the plane of the goal was well in the endzone. Endzones were 11 yards in depth David Knight #135 |
