BAFRA ANNUAL CONVENTION – SAT 31ST MARCH AND SUN 1ST APRIL 2012
It’s just over a week to go now to our biggest Convention for many a year. All the preparation work is done (almost) and all we need to do now is turn up and make the most of the weekend.
Welcome Desk
The Welcome Desk will be open between 9:00am - 9:30am on the Saturday morning and will be located in the Wake Green Suite.
A few things will happen when you arrive at the Welcome Desk. Firstly you will need to sign-in and then pick up your Convention Pack. This will contain the following items:
I.D. Badge
2012 Rule Book
Game Day Paperwork Packs
Officiating Review DVD
Convention Pack:
Programme of Events
Rule Changes Summary
Writing Paper and Pen
You will then be shown to the Main Convention Hall where Tea and Coffee will be available. We have quite a lot to get through during the day so I would ask that everyone makes the effort to be there as early as possible. We will start at 9:30am prompt.
Prize Draw
We will be running a Prize Draw again this year and have prizes worth over £150.00 to give away. So remember to pick up some Raffle tickets at the Welcome Desk. They are only £1.00 each and the money collected will be reinvested in next year’s prizes.
Housekeeping Notes
Rooms will be available from 2:00pm on your day of arrival. We will probably have a room available where bags can be stored until you check-in. I will arrive at the hotel around 9:30pm on the Friday. If you have any problems please let me know. Directions to the hotel can be found at: http://www.coventryhillhotel.co.uk.
And Finally
Please bring a Flag and a Bean bag as you will need them for one of the Break-Out sessions. I look forward to meeting everyone at the Convention and I’m sure we will all have an enjoyable weekend.

2012 EXAMINATION
The 2012 examination will be available to members this year from after the AGM via the website. If anyone is unable to access via the website, if they let me know, I will send them a hard copy. Please note that it is mandatory for qualified officials to sit the exam if they are to retain their qualified status. Associate officials are encouraged to attempt the exam as it is a good guide to them and their trainer with regard to their progress. If any affiliate members wish to attempt the exam, they are welcome to do so.

BAFRA CHARITY
At the AGM in 2011, the issue of having a BAFRA charity was raised. The idea received popular support from those present and the Directors agreed to consider this and how it would be implemented.
Following discussion it was agreed that members will be invited to choose a charity for BAFRA to support this year during the first day of the Convention. Each member attending will receive a form with seven charities listed which they will be asked to rank in order with the one receiving the most support through an AV voting system being selected. The charities from which members will be asked to choose are:
Access Sport
Age UK
Aspire
Cancer Research UK
Mind
National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children
Royal National Lifeboat Institution

Gloucestershire Gladiators |
Pitch was 80 yards long, no team areas marked, NFL hashmarks, cones were placed three yards from goal posts by request of officials. The home team only provided one ball, the other two were provided by the visiting team. Changing rooms, while large enough had other equipment placed inside and were very dirty. Mike LeFevre #341 |

|
Southampton Stags |
No proper team areas marked. Goals attached to surrounding fence mean that no official can get behind them to rule on field goal attempts. Jim Briggs #31 |
Unknown |
|
Newcastle Raiders |
There were a number of white and yellow soccer & hockey markings on the field, which were abutting the markings for football. Team areas not marked between 25 yards lines, no coaching lines, no limit lines. Ben Griffiths #228 |

Northumbria Mustangs |
There were a number of white and yellow soccer & hockey markings on the field, which were abutting the markings for football. Team areas not marked between 25 yards lines, no coaching lines, no limit lines. Chain broke numerous times throughout the game. The game management replaced one ball person before the game but after the previous ball person had been briefed. Ben Griffiths #228 |

|
Solent Redhawks |
Game was played at a fantastic facility next to Southampton RFC. The ground has an artificial 3G pitch and is perfectly marked (apart from a lack of numbers). Just 1 change of chain crew during the game. Dean Wright #553 |

|
Plymouth Blitz |
Field marked with NFL hashmarks of varying lengths and not in a straight line between the posts. Officials used pylons positioned off the end lines according to BAFA rules as a guide for inbounds marks. Sideline hashmarks between 25 and 30 yard lines on home team sideline were incorrectly spaced - only 4 'yards' were marked out here, two of which were more than a yard. All other hashmarks were correct. No solid five yard lines. No three yard marks. One endzone was 9 yards long, the other was 11 yards long. Amir Brooks #593 |
