BAFRA was formed in 1984 to meet the needs of a growing interest in American Football in Britain. It is now the longest standing, continuously operating organisation in British American Football.
Whether you are an ex-player, coach or just someone with an interest in the sport, if you have a desire to officiate we would like to hear from you.
BAFRA offers full training to all new officials in the form of an online six-module training programme. Each module is accompanied by a ten question pop quiz. Once complete, a new official will sit the Competency Exam of 25 questions before graduating to Competent Associate Status and being allowed to take the field. All new officials will also be partnered with a mentor for on and off the field support.
Training will continue throughout your time officiating British American Football including an annual training convention every Spring. The training programme has been meticulously designed to ensure that everyone receives a high level of support and development.

There is an initial payment of £30 to cover the cost of training materials, which will entitle you to a £15 discount on the membership fee in the first renewal after achieving qualified status.
During your first 10 games you will earn a fee for each game you officiate ranging from £25 to £60 depending on the event and the crew size. There is also a travel expenses policy.
The minimum age for officials is currently 16, though members under 18 will require parental consent and will be restricted in the category of games they may cover.
