ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL

Membership renewals will be due from 1st October. I am pleased to inform you that, yet again this year, fees are unchanged. Individual letters will be sent out electronically to all members with the details of the renewal process so please ensure your contact details are up to date on the website. Those recently joined are not required to pay again and will be automatically renewed in mid-October. If this applies to you details will be in the letter. If you have not received you letter by 21st September, please contact me. Likewise, please get in touch if you have any queries. If you require any BAFRA badges, it is a good opportunity to order them with your renewal. Also people occasionally want to change their registration number. Details of how to do this are included on the renewal form. Members who do renew will be removed from membership in early November. However, please do not leave it until the last minute as the Operations Team need who know who is going to be available for the start of the BUCS season.

Each year we get a small number of people who make a payment for their renewal but do not return their form. This delays the renewal process and may result in your membership being suspended. With the new data protection regulations that came into force in May 2018 your renewal will indicate that you are happy for BAFRA to contact you.

Finally, occasionally we get members who, for whatever reason, are unable to make their membership renewal payment within the specified timescale. If this applies to you, you must contact Roger Brown, Director of Finance, via finance@bafra.info to agree a payment plan. This will of course, be conducted in strict confidence.

I look forward to welcoming you as a BAFRA member for a further year.

New this week

Neutral Venue (John Charles Centre for Sport / South Leeds Stadium)

Well marked 100-yard (IFAF yards) field in white missing only limit lines, numbers and 9-yard marks. Hashmarks and inbounds lines were both very faint and there was a partly exposed drain cover in one end zone but these were rectified by game management prior to kickoff. Game suspended for 36 minutes with 11.25 remaining in the 3rd quarter to allow treatment of a seriously injured player.

END ZONE

PLAY OF THE WEEK:

New this week

Play: A's ball, 2nd and 12, on A's 36. Wide receiver A80 steps out of bounds at the A-38 yard line and immediately returns inbounds. QB A8 throws a legal forward pass toward A80. As A80 is attempting to get to the pass, he is held by B16 at the A-44 yard line. The ball lands untouched at the A-48 yard line.

Ruling?

Last week

Play: Team A's ball, 2nd and 6, on Team B's 25 yard line. There are 23 seconds remaining in the second quarter and the clock is running. QB A18 intends to "spike" the ball immediately after the snap but muffs the ball. A33 catches the loose ball and immediately throws it forward directly into the ground.

Ruling: Team A's ball, 3rd and 6, on the Team B 25 yard line. The clock starts on the snap. The pass was thrown to conserve time immediately after the ball was first controlled after the snap. The pass was not thrown after the ball had touched the ground. This is a legal forward pass (7-3-2-f).

MECHANICS:

New this week

Game Situation: On 4th down, team A punt.  Team B line of with 2 kick returners deep 40 yards behind the line of scrimmage.  How should the officials on a 8 man crew share responsibility for these players to ensure best coverage?

Answer next issue…

Last week

Game Situation: Generally, a ball should be spotted either 'nose on', 'tail on' or equidistant between two yard lines. In what situation should the ball be spotted with greater accuracy?

Answer: M-5-7-6. Where the forward progress is close to the line to gain or goal line, more accuracy is required and the covering official should spot the ball exactly where forward progress was given.  After a change of possession (start of new series) however, the dead-ball spot should always be marked with the nose of the ball on the nearest yard line.
