MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL

Thank you to those who have already made their membership renewal. All renewals are acknowledged. From next week onwards I will publish a list of those who have renewed in Newsflash.

As in previous years there is also a survey of members being conducted alongside the renewal process. However, for the first time this year, there will be the option of completing this on the new website (details in the letter) although, for this year only, there will also be the option of returning it in the traditional way.

As a reminder, membership renewals are due from 1st October and must be with me by 31st October at the latest. It is possible to re-join after that date but at a higher cost. If you wish to set up a payment plan for your renewal, you need to contact Charles Young at finance@bafra.info. If you have any other queries about the renewal process, please contact me directly.

BEN GRIFFITHS #228

Congratulations to Ben Griffiths and Jenefer Hurst who married in Knutsford on 1st October. BAFRA was well represented at the festivities and would have been able to form a very strong crew plus an assessor from those present!

We wish Ben and Jenefer every happiness for their future together.

END ZONE

PLAY OF THE WEEK:

New this week

Play: Team A line up for a field goal attempt at the Team B 10 yard line. The ball is legally kicked low and hits the Umpire on the head. The ball loops up into the air and passes between the posts & over the crossbar without touching anyone else or the ground. Ruling?
Ruling?

Last week

Play: A's ball, 4th and 8, on the Team A 3 yard line. A4's shanked punt comes down on the Team A 9 yard line and rebounds untouched into A's end zone. A23, in his attempt to pick up the ball in A's end zone, accidentally kicks the ball back out of the end zone. B35 recovers the ball on the Team A 10 yard line, advances to Team A's 6 yard line and fumbles. A78 subsequently recovers the ball while grounded on the Team A 3 yard line.

Ruling: The scrimmage kick crossed the neutral zone when the ball hit the ground beyond the neutral zone on the Team A 9 yard line (2-16-7-b). The accidental kick by A23 is not a foul, rather it is an illegal touch. However, illegal touching by Team A in their own endzone is ignored (6-3-2-d). Therefore no fouls or violations have occurred when B35 recovers the ball and begins his advance. As such, when A78 recovers the fumble, Team A are in legal possession and there are no fouls or violations on the play. 1st and 10 for Team A at their own 3 yard line.

MECHANICS:

New this week

Game Situation: After a forward pass has been thrown, how much time should the umpire spend continuing to observe the action in the vicinity of the line of scrimmage before turning to assist deep and wing officials with the pass?
Answer next issue...

Last week

Play: 4th and 10, Team A are punting from a scrimmage kick formation. B12 is in a position to catch the untouched kick beyond the neutral zone. A89 runs up to B12, waves his arms and shouts at him in a attempt to put him off. The ball brushes A89's arm and is caught by B12 on the B20. B12 immediately goes to ground. Ruling?
Answer: M-3-4-7-a. Anything that impedes the receiver from the opportunity to catch the ball should be called a foul. This includes (amongst other things) yelling while close to the receiver and waving arms in front of the receiver. This is interference with the opportunity to catch a kick, 15 yards from the spot of the foul – B's ball on the B35. (6-4-1)
