MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL

The membership renewal letters will be sent electronically within the next week. Please contact me if you have not received yours by 30th September. All of the renewal details will be in the letter and, as in previous years renewals may be made electronically or by post. Renewal fees have been held unchanged again this year.

As in previous years there is also a survey of members being conducted alongside the renewal process. However, for the first time this year, there will be the option of completing this on the new website (details in the letter) although, for this year only, there will also be the option of returning it in the traditional way.

Membership renewals are due from 1st October and must be with me by 31st October at the latest. It is possible to re-join after that date but at a higher cost. If you wish to set up a payment plan for your renewal, you need to contact Charles Young at finance@bafra.info. If you have any other queries about the renewal process, please contact me directly.

END ZONE

PLAY OF THE WEEK:

New this week

Play: A's ball, 4th and 6, on A's 28. B23 signals for a fair catch and is in position to make the catch. B45 blocks A85 into B23 on B's 34 just as the ball arrives. B23 muffs the punt and A89 recovers on B's 26.
Ruling?

Last week

Play: A's ball, free kick, on A's 35. The untouched kick is bouncing near the sideline on A's 49 when A28 jumps and controls the ball while airborne. B93 pushes A28 toward the sideline and A28 lands out of bounds on A's 49.

Ruling: The free kick had gone the required ten yards past Team B's restraining line. A28 did not recover the free kick since he did not land inbounds. The fact that A28 may have landed inbounds if he was not pushed out of bounds is not relevant. Team B did not touch the free kick. This is a free kick out of bounds and a foul. Team B will decline the penalty and elect to take the ball at the hash mark on the yardline where the ball crossed the sideline. B's ball, 1st and 10, on A's 49.

MECHANICS:

New this week

Game Situation: How should the Linejudge on a 4 man crew position himself during a punt in order to ensure best coverage of the play?
Answer next issue...

Last week

Play: How many signals should a covering official give when a playing near the sideline either (a) catches a pass inbounds and goes out of bounds (b) catches a pass and is downed inbounds (c) drops a forward pass to the ground. Which signals should be given in each case?
Answer: M-11-4-b-9. When ruling on pass receptions a wing official should give only one signal. Either (a) the timeout signal (S3) , (b) the start the clock signal (S2) or (c) the incomplete pass signal (S10).
