WORKING PARTY FOR U18 MEMBERSHIP

At this year's AGM the subject of U18s becoming active members of BAFRA was raised. This has been discussed by the Board of Directors and we are looking at how to progress this. As such the board is looking for members willing to volunteer their time for a working party to put together a framework for trialling U18 membership initially in selected parts of the country.

If any member is willing to volunteer their time to participate in this, please can they e-mail me to let me know of their interest.

NEXT HOME GAME

New this week

Aberdeen Roughnecks

During the second quarter the game was suspended for 35 minutes for treatment and transfer to hospital of an injured player. Plaudits to both the local medics and ambulance crew for the expedient, caring and professional way they handled this injury.

Ian Sneddon #52

Unknown

Bournemouth Bobcats

Balls presented to the officials were over inflated (one as much as 17 psi) and had to be corrected by the officials. Changing rooms are poor. No Limit lines on the field markings and twice officials had to request that Game Management move spectators away from the corners of one of the endzones

David Knight #135

Unknown

Bristol Apache

Cornish wore gold jerseys and Apache wore orange. They contrasted enough for the game to proceed. Team areas only marked to the 35 yard lines - extended to 25 yard lines with cones.

Euan Paterson #165

London Warriors

Field markings were faint. Hash marks at both inbounds lines and sidelines were much longer than necessary. Inbounds lines were effectively at the outside of the hash marks rather than the inside. Some crooked lines. Not all hash marks were one yard apart. Field still had rugby markings on it. No numbers or 9yd marks. No coaching boxes or team areas. No limit lines. Chain broke several times during the game. Field in poor condition with uneven surface and patchy long grass. Balls provided were very old and worn.

Jim Briggs #31

Unknown

Jurassic Coast Raptors

90 yard field, otherwise nicely marked and well structured set up.

Philip Hume #52

Unknown

Kent Exiles Youth

Well-marked 100-yard field just missing limit lines and numbers/9-yard marks. Changing room good size but not lockable and shower and toilet not private.

END ZONE

PLAY OF THE WEEK:

New this week

Play: A's ball, 3rd and 8, on B's 32. QB A18 is looking to pass when B44 holds A88 on B's 27. A18 is forced to run and fumbles on B's 10. B58 recovers while grounded on B's 8. B92 was offside at the snap.
Ruling?

Last week

Play: A's ball, 2nd and 8, on B's 28. B29 intercepts A12's legal forward pass on B's 3 and his original momentum carries him into B's end zone where he fumbles. B33 recovers on B's 5 while grounded. During the fumble, B77 clipped A94 on B's 15.

Ruling: Safety. Team B's ball, free kick, on the Team B 20 yard line. Team A scores two points. B77 clipped during a running play. The end of the related run is in B's end zone. The 15-yard penalty is enforced from the end of the run, which results in the safety. The momentum exception rule is not applicable in this play since the ball was neither declared dead in the end zone, nor out of bounds after the fumble (8-5-1-a-exceptions).

MECHANICS:

New this week

Game Situation: On a 6 or 7 man crew, which officials should escort the team captains into the centre of the field for the coin toss?
Answer next issue...

Last week

Play: 1st and 10 at the Team A 25 yard line. A23 runs a sweep to the Linejudge's side of the field. A23 is brought to the ground at the Team A 28 yard line close to the Linejudge's sideline. The Linejudge does not blow his whistle even though the play appears to be over. How long should the Linesman be prepared to wait before blowing his whistle to kill the play?
Answer: M-5-5-5. Never be the first official to blow a whistle if the ball is not in your zone of responsibility. The Linesman here must concentrate on his own area of coverage and only echo the Linejudge's whistle (when it comes ) if it is necessary to end continuing action in his area. Don't toot your whistle unless you have thrown a penalty flag or otherwise need to attract the Referee's attention.
